Suppliers

Even though private sector suppliers are not obliged to comply with the eInvoicing Directive (2014/55/EU) or the European standard  (EN 16931), many Member States may have their own additional national obligations or preferences for suppliers to send electronic invoices.

Each Member State is entitled to define its own interpretation of the eInvoicing Directive. Therefore, how your country's public sector is impacted by eInvoicing depends on how your government has transposed the Directive into national law. eInvoices are generally classified as visual invoices or structured data invoices. As a supplier, you are free to choose the type of invoice you want to use, but the eInvoicing Directive has mandated that public sector client organisations have the capability to receive structured data invoices.

To electronically receive invoices, you need a technical solution. You can choose to develop your own application in-house or find a solution provider that can do this for you.  Alternatively, you can also look into off-the-shelf software to find a suitable solution.
